Sombr’s “Undressed” Might Emotionally Ruin You (In a Good Way)

Every now and again, a song comes along and speaks directly to your soul.

“Undressed” is no exception, delving into how the aftermath of a breakup feels and unpacking a whole lot of baggage.

I first heard this track on the radio whilst in the car, and thought it was an 80s gem that I'd somehow missed. I was wrong! Sombr, a 20‑year‑old (19 when the track was released), artist from the US has managed to single handedly write the most relatable heartbreak song that I think I’ve ever heard.

But don't just take my word for it - listen/watch here:

Honestly, the song touched me so much. Even though I find it hard usually to listen to sad songs, this one hurts so good. I thought about more than just past relationships, it made me realise how universal these experiences are, and that the embodiment of that one special person we all have will destroy us if we’re not careful.

He channels that emotion in lyrics like:

“I don’t wanna get undressed for a new person all over again, I don’t wanna kiss someone else’s neck and have to pretend it’s yours instead”

That sentiment isn’t just a line, it’s a gut punch. It encapsulates the raw reluctance to let someone new in and to let go of what was familiar and sacred.

This kind of vulnerable songwriting is exactly what we need more of. Don't get me wrong, a lot of artists share their pain in their work but the sophistication of how Sombr lays his feelings bare needs to be studied.

And, in a non-patronising way, the fact that he's able to write with such maturity about a love, shows his talent and depth of field. He's a true visionary.

Since Sombr released “Undressed” on March 21, 2025, he has transformed from a bedroom songwriter into a full‑blown indie darling and now, a favourite find!

Having now amassed almost 3 million followers on TikTok and sparked over 200,000 video creations using the song, he’s cemented his name in the psyche of pretty much every millennial and gen-zer on the platform.

This alternative indie‑pop artist is absolutely taking the world by storm. And I’m totally here for it.
